Macintosh extension
Additional operating system modules for the Macintosh prior to Mac OS X. Extensions included drivers and other enhancements that were loaded when the Mac was started. Like the old terminate and stay resident (TSR) programs in DOS PCs, extensions were often prone to conflict.
