land attack

land attack definition - computer

A denial of service attack in which a packet with a forged header is sent with the same source and destination data. For example, identical TCP source and destination ports and/or identical IP source and destination addresses. Land attacks have crashed systems; however, up-to-date firewall software should detect this spoof and not let it cause OS or protocol failures (see kernel panic).
