instant-on definition - computer

Refers to software-based computers, PDAs and cellphones that are immediately available for user input right after they are powered on. It implies that the software, or at least a primary component of the software, is stored in a non-volatile memory and does not have to be loaded from storage. See MRAM and instant-on operating system.
