IGES
(Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) An ANSI file format that is system independent and also intended for human interpretation. Evolving out of the U.S. Air Force's Integrated Computer Automated Manufacturing (ICAM) program in 1979, IGES was designed as a neutral format for the exchange of CAD models. IGES has been superseded by STEP. See STEP and PDES.
