(Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, www.icann.org) A non-profit, international association incorporated in the U.S. in 1998. ICANN coordinates all the Internet's naming, addressing and protocol systems, and it accredits domain name registrars. ICANN's Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) operating unit maintains the official repositories of data and function definitions pertaining to domains, addressing and protocols (see IANA).
