HOS definition - computer

(Higher Order Software) A design and documentation technique used to break down an information system into a set of functions that are mathematically correct and error free. It uses a rigid set of rules for the decomposition of the total system into its elementary components. The resulting specifications are complete enough to have machine language programs generated directly from them.
