GNU Project

GNU Project definition - computer

The development of the GNU operating system, which began in 1984 and continues to be enhanced (see GNU). Initiated by Richard Stallman, the GNU conception of an operating system follows that of Unix, which is more expansive than other operating systems and can include any type of programs users might want. Thus, major applications have been released by the GNU Project such as the popular GIMP image editing program. See GNU/Linux, GIMP and free software.
