file spec definition - computer

(file SPECification) A reference to the location of a file on a disk, which includes disk drive, directory name and file name. For example, in DOS, Windows and OS/2, c:\wordstar\books\chapter is a file spec for the file CHAPTER in the BOOKS subdirectory in the WORDSTAR directory on drive C.
