FiOS definition - computer

(FIber Optic Service) An Internet, TV and phone service from Verizon that employs optical fibers from the telephone company's facilities into individual homes and offices. Starting in 2004, FiOS was the first large deployment of FTTP (fiber to the premises) by a major carrier. FiOS TV offers more than 200 TV channels, including high-definition, and 10,000 titles on demand. FiOS Internet speeds range from 5 to 50 Mbps downstream and 2 to 5 Mbps upstream. FiOS Phone offers unlimited service over the traditional and highly reliable telephone system. See FTTP, optical fiber and triple play.
