(European Telecommunications Standards Institute, Sophia Antipolis technical park, Nice, France, www.etsi.org) A non-profit membership organization founded in 1988, dedicated to standardizing information and communication technologies (ICT) throughout Europe. It promotes worldwide standards for telecommunications, broadcasting and medical electronics, and its efforts are coordinated with the ITU. With members from more than 50 countries, any European organization proving an interest in promoting European standards may represent itself in ETSI.
