electronic cinema
The creation of movies in electronic formats rather than film. Coined in the 1980s, the term referred to analog video at that time, both in standard format and high-definition such as the Japanese analog HD system. Later, electronic cinema evolved into digital cinema, and the two terms were used synonymously for a while. See digital cinema.
