edge connector definition - computer

The protruding part of an expansion board that is inserted into an expansion slot. It contains a series of printed lines that go to and come from the circuits on the board. The number of lines (pins) and the width and depth of the lines are different on the various interfaces (ISA, EISA, PCI, Micro Channel, etc.).

Edge connectors are very popular because they are "printed" onto the outer layers of the board in the same process that creates the circuit lines.
