e- definition - computer

(Electronic-) The "e" prefix, with or without the hyphen, may be attached to anything that has moved from the physical world to its electronic alternative, such as "e-mail" and "e-commerce." "E" words have become synonymous with the Internet.

Although many prefer to write the terms without the hyphen, the hyphen is used in this publication, because it makes it easier to identify the word. For example, the "e" pops out faster in "e-commerce" than in "ecommerce."
