eDOCSIS

eDOCSIS definition - computer

(Embedded Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) The CableLabs specification for embedding DOCSIS cable modem functionality into devices. DOCSIS was developed for stand-alone cable modems; however, Embedded DOCSIS (eDOCSIS) enables other devices to directly connect to the cable service. For example, the phone adapters that users attach to their phones for cable telephone (VoIP) service contain eDOCSIS circuits. eDOCSIS is also used in cable residential gateways. See DOCSIS and cable/DSL gateway.
