drop folder definition - computer

(1) A shared subdirectory on a server in the network used to store data for subsequent processing. For example, a drop folder could be used to receive e-mail messages, faxes or print jobs from users.

(2) A folder on the desktop that icons are dragged to "dropped" in to start some action. For example, dropping a document into a print folder would print the document.
