DOI
(Digital Object Identifier) A method of applying a persistent name to documents, publications and other resources on the Internet rather than using a URL, which can change over time. DOI uses the Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI) Handle System technology, which uses a naming system and naming servers to keep track of the location of the resources. To fully implement the system, a browser plug-in is required that will resolve the handle used on a Web page that identifies the resource. Otherwise, a proxy server is required.
