An online exchange of information between people about a particular topic. Using the Web or Usenet services on the Internet, users post messages that appear in chronological order or in question-answer order that can later be reviewed by the general public. Chat rooms and instant messaging (IM) provide discussion venues as well, but are typically used for private exchanges in real time. See newsgroup, forum, chat room and threaded discussion.
