dial-up adapter

dial-up adapter definition - computer

Hardware or software that dials up a telephone number. It often refers to the software in a PC that commands the modem to dial an ISP's telephone number for Internet access (see dial-up). However, for remote machine control over the telephone system, dial-up adapters are hardware devices required at both ends of the line. See dial-up network.
