DeviceNet
An industrial control network primarily used in factory automation that supports up to 64 nodes with data rates from 125 Kbps to 500 Kbps. It is typically used to connect devices such as limit switches, photoelectric sensors, motor starters, bar code readers and operator consoles. DeviceNet is based on the CIP protocol, which provides services at layer 7 of the OSI model and the CAN bus, which provides services at layers 1 and 2. DeviceNet is governed by ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendors Association). For more information, visit www.odva.org. See CAN bus and CIP.
