(1) An RJ-11 telephone socket that provides an outside line for sending data or a fax via modem. In the 1990s, hotels and motels throughout the U.S. started installing dataports in their rooms for customer use. See RJ-11.
(2) Any socket used for data communications, which can include infrared, serial and parallel ports.
