(DataWorks Corporation, San Diego, CA) A software company founded in 1977 that specialized in integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. The company developed, implemented and supported open systems and client/server-based software for midrange manufacturing companies primarily in the high tech sector. In 1998, DataWorks merged with Platinum Software Corporation, Irvine, CA, and a year later, Platinum changed its name to Epicor Software Corporation (www.epicor.com). The name was chosen to signify the "core" operations necessary to place the customer at the center of its business.
