cowloop definition - computer

(Copy-On-WriteLOOP) A Linux driver that enables Linux distributions to run directly from read-only CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs. It copies the read-only files on the optical disc, which cannot be altered, to "cowfiles" on the hard disk. All writes to the CD or DVD are redirected to the cowfiles. See cloop and LiveDistro.
