Copland definition - computer

The code name for a next generation Macintosh operating system that was expected to provide preemptive multitasking, multithreading, better crash protection and the ability to customize the user interface. Considerable effort went into Copland; however, things changed after Apple purchased NeXT Computer. See Rhapsody.
