convolutional code definition - computer

A type of channel coding that adds patterns of redundancy to the data in order to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for more accurate decoding at the receiving end. The Viterbi algorithm is used to decode a particular type of convolutional code. See Viterbi decoder.
