CDFS
(CD-ROM File System) The file system that handles CD-ROMs in 32-bit versions of Windows, starting with Windows 95. CDFS uses the Windows Vcache disk cache to buffer data from the CD-ROM in memory to speed up retrieval. CDFS replaced the earlier 16-bit MSCDEX.EXE used in DOS/Windows 3.1.
