CAMAC definition - computer

(Computer Automated Measurement And Control) An IEEE standard (IEEE 583) for modular instrumentation systems. CAMAC "crates" are control stations that contain plug-in cards with ports to data acquisition devices. The crates contain a controller that connects via cable to a plug-in card in the computer's bus, known as a "CAMAC coupler." Crates can be daisy chained together for expansion.
