bilevel scan definition - computer

Detecting and storing only one level of color on a document page (black or white). Bilevel scanning is typically used to scan text, which may be converted into an ASCII or EBCDIC characters using optical character recognition (OCR). Bilevel scans require only one bit per pixel.
