backlight definition - computer

Typically refers to a light source at the back of an LCD screen (monitor, TV, cellphone, etc.). The backlight is often a fluorescent lamp (see CCFT), and increasingly LEDs, either all white or tri-color: red, green and blue (RGB). See LCD, LCD types and Dolby HDR.
