auto line feed
A function that moves the cursor or print head to the next line when a carriage return (CR) character is sensed in the text. Windows and DOS documents always have a line feed (LF) character following the CR and therefore do not require an auto line feed. Neither do Unix/Linux documents, which use only the LF. However, the Mac uses only a CR character for end of line and "does" require it. See CR/LF.
