AOLS

AOLS definition - computer

(All-Optical Label Switching) An optical packet switching technology that tags data streams with optical labels (headers). AOLS splits off and analyzes the label using electronic circuits in initial systems (photonic circuits are expected later). It sends a signal to the data stream to write a new label, which by this time has had its original label erased, and directs the photonic components to convert wavelengths or switch to the required output port.
