ACT! definition - computer

A popular contact manager from Sage Software (www.bestsoftware.com) that runs under DOS, Windows, Mac, Lotus Notes and various PDAs, including the Palm, Blackberry and Pocket PC. Originally a DOS-only program for contact names, ACT! launched the contact and customer management software category in 1987. It evolved into a comprehensive application for the sales professional to organize and track customer details.

A full-featured word processor, activity scheduler and report generator are included, and later versions provided connectivity to the Web in real time. ACT!'s ownership has changed hands from Symantec to SalesLogix (Interact) to The Sage Group, parent company of Best Software, which renamed itself Sage Software in 2005.
