The blending of telecommunications switching with computer processing power and programmable logic. CT was an intermediate step in the evolution from the third generation of digital electronic common control (ECC) telephone systems to the fourth generation of IP-based systems. The term computer telephony was coined by Howard Bubb of Dialogic Corporation (subsequently acquired by Intel and later sold to another company that renamed itself Dialogic Corporation).
