Hi

I don’t want to look a fool when quoting this, so can anyone please confirm the name of the ‘circled R’ used beside registered trademarks.

I’ve been told that it is a Racol, but am unable to confirm.

Thanks

not heard of racol before and can’t see any related items in a google search.

in unicode definitions, special characters e.g. caret, tilde) are usually named and the registered sign is called just that.

“The registered trademark symbol, designated by ® (a circled R also known as a Racol derived from Registered & Authorised COmpany Logo), is a symbol used to provide notice that the preceding mark is a trademark or service mark that has been registered with a national trademark office.”

It’s too bad this site is not more worthwhile: no matter where you click you get a chart of useless symbols.

That would be most helpful, please, much more so than that site. Where is racol in the chart?

This is what I’m seeing when I click on the link (along with a giant R symbol).

Wiki: Registered trademark symbol

The registered trademark symbol, designated by ® (a circled R also known as a Racol derived from Registered & Authorised COmpany Logo), is a symbol used to provide notice that the preceding mark is a trademark or service mark that has been registered with a national trademark office. [1] In some countries, including Hong Kong, it is against the law to use the registered trademark symbol for a mark that is not officially registered in any country. [1] Trademarks not so registered are instead marked with the trademark symbol ™, while unregistered service marks are marked with the service mark symbol ℠. The proper manner to display these symbols is immediately following the mark in superscript style.

Yupper!
Maybe Mark can help us decipher it.  Makes no sense to me. The only one that did was the site under “monetary symbols”, but only because I knew what some of them
were.

They all mean something to somebody—just not to us.
