The author states that the prosecutor is duty bound to present any evidence that may prove the defendant innocent and that he must disclose all pretrial evidence.

In the above statement, there is a “be bound to” phrase, and what is the role of the word “duty” in it? Or is it just written in a wrong way?

To be bound, in a business sense, means to have an obligation. An attorney is bound by his duty to represent his client. Duty bound is simply an idiom for bound by duty.

The expression is almost redundant. It’s just as correct to say “the prosecutor is bound to present any evidence….”
