As tattoo, had run out of steam:
Swan Song.
Legend had it that swans were mute during their lives, and when about to die, would issue a mournfu, plaintive cry. The legend is untrue, and even as early as
77AD Pliny the Elder said: “Observation shows that the story of the dying swan singing is false”. Yet many poets and playwrites made use of the legend including
Chaucer in “Parliament of Fowles” wherein:“the jealous swan sings before his death”. Shakespeare has Portia in Merchant of Venice saying similar.
The term is used today chiefly for celebrated performers on a final tour, a celebratory tour, farewell or final performance.

Strange to relate, I was witness to a solitary bleached duck being treated at a veterinary clinic in Dubai last night.  The lakes in one of the new residential developments had developed algal blooms in the summer heat, so the maintenance staff decided that emptying drums of bleach into the lake would solve the problem.

Well it certainly killed the ducks - 40 of them, and a lots else besides.  This one was the sole survivor, being dosed with activated charcoal liquid to soak up the toxins.  The duck seemed to be slowly recovering in the time that I was there.

True story, but there are better ways to barbeque a duck.

And the duck said (very faintly) “Almost my swan song !”

Bleached Duck: Sounds like an entree and a Chinese buffet or a sequel to Woody Allen’s Without Feathers.

Don’t think I’d eat swan in any shape.  Had one chase me when I was about 11 or 12.  Got to close to its nest, and it stood taller than I stood when it took off after me.

I’m like the ugly duckling (except that I’m really a duck).

I have wild ducks, about 8 of them, living in my back yard, nest by the creek. I’ll look for some of your relatives.

The ones with the kudzu-colored rings around their necks are probably kin.
