Strange to relate, I was witness to a solitary bleached duck being treated at a veterinary clinic in Dubai last night. The lakes in one of the new residential developments had developed algal blooms in the summer heat, so the maintenance staff decided that emptying drums of bleach into the lake would solve the problem.
Well it certainly killed the ducks - 40 of them, and a lots else besides. This one was the sole survivor, being dosed with activated charcoal liquid to soak up the toxins. The duck seemed to be slowly recovering in the time that I was there.
True story, but there are better ways to barbeque a duck.
And the duck said (very faintly) “Almost my swan song !”
