He was quick to see the application of an argument.

It really doesn’t make sense, especially out of context. He could be quick to see the opportunity for an argument, quick to understand what an argument is about, etc. Seeing the application of an argument is not common usage, regardless of what it’s supposed to mean.

Can it not just be figuratively speaking that he saw the application of an argument? Although this sentence is awkward, I still feel it makes sense, meaning and context aside.

Figuratively, you could say, “He saw the argument of the application.”

Still doesn’t make sense.
