galvanize
1802 (galvanism dates to 1797), from Fr. galvaniser, from galvanisme “electricity produced by chemical action,” formed from name of It. physicist Luigi Galvani (1737-98) who discovered it while running currents through the legs of dead frogs. Figurative sense of “excite, stimulate (as if by electricity)” first recorded 1853. Meaning “to coat with metal by means of galvanic electricity” (especially to plate iron with tin, but now typically to plate it with zinc) is from 1839.

Interesting how a word that means to give life, spirit, or vitality to originated from a man who played with dead frogs.

I’m OK with frogs but prefer them to be alove.

Having worked in an engineering form for 12 years, galvanized to me means adding zinc to metal for corrosion resistance. The most common process is ycepts “hot-dip” galvanizing.

Maybe hot-dip belong the blasé thread. Sounds perverted enough to belong there.

Bet they were hot-dipped, and they won’t rust until the zinc wears off.

Hot-dippity-doo-dahd buckets won’t kill you. They might even keep you from rusting.
