Hello all,

Can you please analyze the following sentence : This is one of the most important decisions Mr.president has taken since being sworn in almost one year ago.

I am confused about the use of being+ed, what is this form and when we can use it??

Thank you

It’s another, perfectly acceptable, way of saying “having been sworn in”.  Saparris can wrap the grammar around it for you a bit later on.

The previous midget president was mostly “sworn at”.

“Since being sworn in” is a prepositional phrase, with “since” as the preposition and “being sworn [in]” as a gerund phrase in the passive voice.

I am interpreting “swear in” as a verb phrase, with “to office” or something similar being understood.

Comparable sentences would be I haven’t eaten since yesterday, I haven’t eating since arriving, and I haven’t eaten since being arrested.

I was trying to emulate the -ing thing going on above. I would say, “I haven’t eaten since I got here.”

(Actually, I haven’t eaten. Bye.)

“Old boy” is an apt description, with emphasis in the “old.” I prefer “vintage boy.”

Neither did I.
And I’m not too sure how rare I want to get.  I’m ready for the pearly gates. Leave this world to doug and his dinghy.

Can’t cook. Besides Okra and Fig Casserole does not sound too appetizing.  Even dog would not ‘nose’ it.

You can’t cook, and you don’t eat out. Are you dog food again?

No, he eats his house - log jam is good, gingerbread is better.

One eat jam. The other eats jamb. If Luke had a gingerbread house, they could be a team.
