An alternative for Homophobia

I have been trying to think of a more accurate word to describe people who dislike or disapprove of homosexuals or homosexuality. Homophobia, to me, implies fear, and while some people may be afraid of homosexuals, I think most just don’t like homosexuality (with various reasons I’m sure). I have no problem with it, I am simply pining for a new word. I know anti-gay could easily sum it up, but that is too vague. There is also the term heterosexism “which is the unthinking presumption that heterosexuality is preferable to any other forms of sexual expression” (just in case someone brought that up).

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

How about “queer-bashing misopederast”?

n.b. now for neologic “misopederast” try our IPA |ˌmɑɪsɒpəˈdɛɹæst| pronunciation guide!

But hey, what’s just another star-spangled well-endowed blue-collar working-class tricked-out low-life Parisian whore—be it fine lady or distinguished gentleman?

Welcome to the forum/agora. We often talk without knowing what we (or anyone else for that matter) is saying.

Sarah, it ain’t what we say, it’s the way that we say it.

To quote Ann out of context:-

“Oronyms are similar to homophones in that they are words that sound the same. However, homophones are generally considered to be single words, spelled differently, but with the same sound (such as too, to, two) but oronyms can be strings of words made to sound like another word. So, in your example if you pronounce “farm assist” outloud, it sounds the same as saying the single word “pharmacist” and “pair a dice” sounds like “paradise”.”

If you’re really pining for a new word, “saturnine oronyms” seems to convey a generous dollop of distaste for homophones, without being politically correct - or actually saying anything!

“Homophobic” and ‘homophobia” do connote fear more than simple disapproval. If a neologism would enhance our language, we could say that such a person is homo-averse (having a homo-aversion) or misohomosexual (being a misohomosexualist).

Or maybe we should simply say that the person has a dislike for same-sex relationships.

All we need now is a word for an infatuation with obscure European automobiles and we can square the circle.

The Brits have Morris Dancers.  Maybe we should all be doing the Go-Go !

Morris Dancing in a discussion of homophobia? You could be headed for dangerous territory.

And I think we already have a term for an infatuation with obscure European automobiles: AIG Executitis.
