It seems the old confusion has struck! Tortuous (twisting) and torturous (involving or causing torture).  What a pity, in Word of the Day.

Am I allowed to reply to my own posting?  It was my first ever, and I failed to make clear where the confusion of tortuous with torturous occurred: in today’s Word of the Day! (Anfractuous)
