Discuss salvo here.

noun (1)

1) A general discharge of guns, intended as a salute.

2) A general concentrated fire of a greater or less number of pieces of artillery, for the purpose of making a breach, etc.; the simultaneous and concentrated concussion of a number of cannon-balls or rifle-shells on masonry or earthwork, producing a very destructive effect.

3) The combined shouts or cheers of a multitude, in applause, honor, or admiration.

noun (2)

An exception, a reservation, an excuse.

“I shall inquire what salvos, or qualifying considerations, we may reasonably understand.” - Waterland: Works

[From the Latin salvo jure = the right being intact or preserved; an expression used in granting anything.]

[French salve; Italian salva = a salvo, a solute, front Latin salve = hail!]

Australian slang for a member of the Salvation Army.  The usual expression is “Thank God for the Salvos !”

I’ve heard of the rabbit infestation. Those tambourines really don’t work.  My dog does a better job.

Well, we don’t have any rabbits with tambourines in my part of the world.  But we do have sheep with horns.  And zoos with trumpeting elephants.  It’s actually the lost sheep that the Salvation Army go hunting for.  That’s why they wear uniform - unlike Slovakian ticket inspectors.

Find a Salvo willing to be indoctrinated as a bellwether, and the lost sheep will follow him - with or without his tambourines!

There’s a thread that explains that.

You sure have a knack of remembering things from different threads and tying them together: a well woven fabric.  Slovakian ticket
inspectors with or without uniform.

Isn’t that the lead sheep in a flock?
We have group of hermits (they call themselves, they wear the color teal, if you can believe that,)
and they call their establishment ‘bellwether’. Don’t think I want to know why. They are north of town.

You’re right, Luke, and although they are leaders, they don’t have the knack.
