I suggest the introduction of a new forum devoted to general chat - i.e. comments that have little or nothing to do with any specific YourDictionary topic.  Casual conversations could be started in that forum and, if any other thread soon veers off the subject and develops into chat, it could be moved there.  Light-hearted exchanges that nevertheless remain relevant to the original topic could be left where they are.

That would ensure that the thread titles bear at least some relation to their content!

Yes, I agree. Because the purpose of any thread is the discussion of what started it and its development.  I don’t think this Agora should be a chat room, but it does not
do harm to have a chat room (if that is the place for it).  Two threads now, that I know of, are nothing more than chat rooms, and the people seem to be enjoying them.
I even take part because it was a discussion about Japanese that caught me. But now it is just discussion. I’m sure the “powers that be” have noticed this as well.
Frankly I am surprised they did not either stop it or make your suggestion before.  Good idea.

While some of the threads get pretty far off the topic in general, this one is just general chat.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been participating as much as anyone. However, most of the posters
are interested in pursuing the topic or word of the day.  And, in case no one, with the exception
(I think) of ACB above, none have joined in the chatter either. Perhaps a place to just
have fun talking, like this thread has become, could go into the Omnibus forum.  We
probably need to check “the powers that be” on this.

Looks like you guys moved to “Click on me, Sean”:  is that your new spot for general chatter?

Got interesting last night…Shiro put on quite an art display.

Did he now?  Sorry to have missed it.  But one person cannot be everywhere at one time.

I am currently working on a solution for “general chatter” and should have something for you all next week. So for now Omnibus is a good place for general chatter and then I’ll move everything over when it’s all set up.

This thread was started by a bunch of folks like you in spicus.  They got overboard too, if you check back thru this thread with last posted in January as you mentioned above. So they started
this thread, but it was doomed from the start and destined for elimination.  They were home-schooled students.  Read thru their comments and see how the site degraded to nothing but chat.

And actually in post #9 above Vikki, the site adminstrator, mentions setting up a thread for general chat. Whether or not she did I do not know.  Why don’t you send her a PM, since she is
the one who mentioned the degrading of the site in other threads.  Perhaps she set it up and I missed it, Or maybe this is the place for it, so the other threads stay on topic. Good Luck,
