Paradiastole - a kind of euphemism in which a bad thing is described in a positive way.  Examples:

Next year will be challenging (= next year will be difficult).
We had a frank discussion (= we had a furious quarrel).
He does not suffer fools gladly (= he is rude and arrogant).
She is a complex character (= she is very moody).
I am a slow, steady worker (= I am a slow worker).
Players should show passion and commitment (= players should show aggression).
The poem has a childlike quality (= the poem is childish).
The columnist has robust views (= he is a bigot).
He had an eye for the ladies (= he was unfaithful to his wife).
They have a strong sense of self-preservation (= they are cowards).
The vicar has both a spiritual and a human side (= he is a hypocrite).

Definitely a word for the Dictionary!  By the way, can someone please clarify the distinction between paradiastole (in particular) and euphemism (in general).

Paradiastole seems to have the same root as paradigm, one meaning of which is :-

A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline.

By that definition, paradiastole describes the contrast between positive/negative ways of seeing things, the classic example being the “glass half-full or half-empty” perception.
