Level-headed.  Middle of the Road.  Centrist. Realistic.

Neutral
A Realist
Staid
Stolid
Equable
Even keel
unwavering
unaffected

Maybe some of those might help jog something.

For the effect you would possibly get away with equimistic. Incidentally the spelling is optimistic
