If I fly from San Francisco to New York (three time zones), do I:

gain three hours, because the numerical value of time has increased
lose three hours, because there are three numerical hours that I don’t get the chance to experience
I believe it’s the second because that’s what we say when we go to DST.

In real terms you neither gain nor lose hours; you just sit in a plane and "spend" the time anyway. In "clock terms" you might arrive at the same time that you left after three hours flying, so you didn’t spend any time flying (you gained a few hours) but you still feel really tired.

This explanation is coming from 14 hours in the future, do you want to buy the winner numbers of the lottery?  :)
