I have to admit to being a very irregular Agoran these days. I dropped in a day or so ago and could not believe my eyes!

We’ve had some problems in the past but this time it seems truly serious. I can’t believe that I can check the last 10 contributions and find that Katy is not visible. I do hope that the trusty regulars (amongst whom I regret I can no longer number myself) will not abandon the Agora in its hour of need. I do hope that the ydc team can find a way of restoring something of the former glory of the site.

I cannot entirely regret the possible permanent passing of some of my own contributions, many were worthy of nothing more than the oblivion to which they appear to have been consigned.

I see that Tim is soldiering on and Stargzer is manfully discussing a WoTD from another source. (Would I be rude enough to comment on his misspelling of the word itself - yes!)

My reasons for dropping out of the "regulars" for a while are too boring to mention. I almost feel that I should start chipping in a few unconsequential bits and pieces just to try to keep the flame alive.

Floreat Agora!

Hi,

I had a message right at the top of the Agora page explaining that we had some disk trouble - but ironically, it too disappeared.  The problem was actually a double-whammy - that the original server had some disk reliability problems, and then when we moved to a backup server, we didn’t have enough disk space.  We’re back on the original, now-reliable server, and I think I can put everything back together again.  I’ll be doing so tomorrow.

Hi,

Due to a different problem, we weren’t able to send out the Word of the day for a while.  We tried to send it out last night, but due to an entirely different problem (network-related, this time >:( ) it quit halfway through.  We fixed that issue and the mail server should finish sending out the messages during the span of today.  It’s been a strange couple of weeks, but we’re getting things back on their feet.

Because of the server downtime today, I wasn’t able to restore the Agora files that went AWOL during the disk problems.  I’ll get to that tomorrow now that everything else is alive again.

Thanks,

Andrew

Much has indeed been restored, but at least some threads are still missing—among them one in which Anders had his words doubled, and I had a posting repeated five (5) times, without my being able to delete the  supernummerary examples. It would be fun to see those mishaps again !...
