Do we have any Coronation Street experts here? There’s a site, Dave Hannah’s The dictionary of the Language of Coronation Street. The URL is home.echo-on.net/~buzzcorr. However, I’ve tried accessing this page, and it’s still down, as far as I know. There’s a book called Street talk, the Langauge of Coronation Street. Does the book have the exact same ebntries as the online site, or is the online site more current? I conacted Dave Hannah, to let himn know that his site was down, and asked if he was going to fix the link to his site and put his site back up-I’m still waiting to hear from him. In the meantime, are there any mirror sites I can go to? Are there any other sites that feature slang used in Coronation Street? Is all corrie slang Lancashire slang? Please let me know.

JG, the Corrie Dictionary you refer to seems to have died on the net, though it exists in paper form: see
http://www.stormloader.com/coronation/links.htm
and
http://www.corrie.net/start/faq.html

Garzo: "reet" is (South) Yorkshire; it’s "rayt" in Lanky…

Coemgenus, which other books at the two links you provided feature or list corrie slang? Besides Street Talk?

Sorry, I don’t know any more on the specific subject of "Corrie talk". Bear in mind, however, that the imaginary setting of Coronation Street is based on Salford (in Greater Manchester), Lancashire. The characters largely speak in a generally Mancunian variety of English, though many have accents from other parts of Lancashire (or even southwest Yorkshire). This site:
http://www.manchester2002-uk.com/lancashire-dialects.html
gives a number of examples taken from  "The Lancashire Dictionary" by Dr Alan Crosby (ISBN 1 85825 122 2).

Thanks for the input Coem- I was looking for sites that feature Lanky slang.. I just received my copy of Street Talk in the mail from Ebay. I was kind of disappointed, I thought it would have more terms in it; I’m not going to worry about it-I bought for less than 5 American dollars. smile

I wouldn’t imagine that a ‘dictionary’ based around the lingo of a soap opera would have the highest academic credentials. However, there is a species of long-haired, Californian professors who are capable of holding chairs in the weirdest of disciplines… It’s almost worth a try at googling for "Professor of Soap Linguistics". Okay, maybe not.
