"Well bust my britches and call me Beauregard!"

"Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit!"

"Well fax me from Kinko’s and put egg on my face!"

Anybody know if there’s a name for the type of expression represented by the three above examples?
And does anyone know anymore like that?

(The 3rd example is courtesy of an NPR program which airs on Saturdays.)

After the last two Presidential elections here in the US, having suffered through some of Dan Rather’s remarks, I’m tempted to call them Ratherisms…

I’m sure there is a special term, but call me a polecat and douse me with perfume if I can remember it ! Why not try writing to Michal Quinion and asking if he knows ? (And be sure to share the results of your researches with the rest of us !...)
