What would people think of having a Word Play section added?  A place for people to post their original plays on words, that is.  Or to discuss old ones, too.

One of my favorites is a spoonerism of sorts that I have found myself saying more than once (often before my cup of coffee).

He came into the office, late and a bit disheveled, with his usual cuff of copy.

I don’t think anyone can beat the eponymous Rev. Spooner, who, when asking his congregation for funds to replace the pews, asked for help in replacing " . . . our beery wenches."
Spoonerisms are good for jokes, like the "What’s the difference" series, like the difference between an epileptic oyster shucker . . .  ::)

My mom once was trying to describe a scene from a movie—I think it was a Western—in which a man was being pistol-whipped... which was rendered whistle-pissed!

;D

Well, obviously ‘whistle-tinkled’ wouldn’t be a Spoonerism… use your imagination to foil the filter!  ;D  Whistle-tinkled?!

. . . and if you lack imagination, just hit the Quote button!

Sounds similar to the Spoonerism for whistle pig.

(How much whiz could a whistle pig whiz . . . )

Here’s what I was thinking about when I wrote the suggestion, in keeping with the season at the time:

Is crucifixion a rood way to die?

I believe it’s original, meaning I thunk it up.  (Sic)

Oddly enough, I pray that all of the threads are equally prey to play as to essay.

PS:  Is there someone out there sufficiently organized to remind us that July 22 is Spoonerism Day?

oh poo you mean they aren’t already?  we have tried so hard to be playful…. but you don’t see it?  Oh yes, I can think of three notorious threads that are decided NOT playful.

Which 3?  Lemme at’em I tell ya!
