surely you mean "spelling checker" ?

a "spell check" is what a witch, wizard or warlock would receive as remuneration for a job well done.

Exactly. And "destruct" is a shortened form of "destruction" printed on control panel buttons. There is no verb "to destruct". While not put "destroy" on the button? It’s even shorter. 8) LONECAT

After thinking about this a bit ( I am a slowcoach) I have decided that spell check must be a check made on a spell about to be performed or cast, by some higher authority, perhaps the Wizard. If he doesn’t check the spell and give it the O.K. then the witch will not receive her (or his) cheque. Don’t you think? LONECAT
